About
On 3rd February 1856 the emigrant ship Josephine Willis, collided with the steamer Mangerton and sank, whilst on its way to New Zealand. The wreck was recently discovered by divers who recovered ceramics, including a complete toilet bowl made by Staffordshire sanitaryware firm Armitage alongside dinner and teaware made by Staffordshire firms Davenport, Longport and Charles Meigh & Son, Hanley.
A new display of these objects, at Gladstone Pottery Museum, provides a unique and fascinating insight into the types of Staffordshire ceramics exported all over the world; even the ones that ended up at the bottom of the sea.
Included with museumn admission.
Museum opening times from April 1 - Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Sundays 11am to 4pm.
