About
Located in a Victorian pottery factory, Gladstone Pottery Museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of Stoke-on-Trent, famous the world over for the quality of its pottery.
Gladstone was not a famous pottery. However, it was typical of hundreds of similar factories in the area making everyday ceramic items for the mass market. Visitors can experience for themselves what conditions were like for the men, women and children who worked at the centre of the world’s pottery industry.
Gladstone Pottery Museum is the only complete Victorian pottery factory from the days when coal burning ovens made the world's finest bone china. Demonstrations of traditional skills, original workshops, the cobbled yard and huge bottle ovens transport visitors back in time. There is the opportunity to have a go at throwing a pot, making a china flower for decorating pottery.
