About
As part of the Staffordshire Day 2024 celebrations, we are presenting a captivating double feature of films with connections to Staffordshire whether through their narratives or production locations.
Soulboy (1.15pm-2.45pm) - Soulboy is a poignant coming-of-age drama set against the backdrop of the vibrant 1970s Northern Soul underground music scene. Beginning in Stoke-on-Trent, the film vividly portrays the city's atmosphere during the 1970s while shining a spotlight on the pulsating northern soul music culture that thrived between Stoke and Wigan during that era.
Jawbone (3.15pm-4.45pm) - penned by Johnny Harris, follows the journey of Jimmy McCabe, a former youth boxing champion grappling with despair and searching for redemption in all the wrong places. After hitting rock bottom, he finds solace and support in his childhood boxing club. Despite being past his prime and considered a long shot, Jimmy returns to training, determined to reclaim his former glory and rebuild his shattered life. Jawbone was filmed partially at the former Spode pottery site, transformed into the main boxing gym for the production.
Please note both films are certificated 15.
