About
Inspired by the 150th anniversary of the publication in 1873 of the adventure novel, Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, our family-friendly summer exhibition, explores the museum's wonderful doll collection. The exhibition will showcase dolls collected by Mrs Elsie Maud Young who was the great grand-daughter of William Turner, one of the well-known Turner family pottery manufacturers in Staffordshire.
She visited countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and Americas, collecting a great number of souvenirs including dolls from each place she visited. Many of these dolls, dressed in their national costume or regional dress, form the basis of Elsie's collection which the museum acquired in 1965.
Around the World in 80 Dolls promises to be a treat for all ages!
Free.
