About
Discover the story behind our new exhibition 'Around the World in 80 Dolls'.
The display showcases the dolls collected by Mrs Elsie Maud Young who was the great grand-daughter of William Turner, one of the well-known Turner family pottery manufacturers in Staffordshire.
Elsie travelled widely during her lifetime, visiting Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and Americas, collecting a great number of souvenirs including dolls from each place she visited.
Join our Curator of Arts, Dr Samantha Howard as she explores some of the highlights ranging from exquisitely sewn and crafted dolls with minute detailing to those made from every-day – sometimes unusual - materials that provide none the less a fascinating insight into what caught Elsie's eye on her travels!
Talk at 1pm, tickets £10 and includes a Cream Tea. Please book in advance by calling 01782 232323 or emailing MuseumEvents@stoke.gov.uk
